Vanessa Platacis

Vanessa Platacis, born in 1973 is an American contemporary artist, who is primarily known for her large scale paintings and installations. She works on a large scale with hand cut stencils with unique fabrics and methods. She explores the relationship between the material and experience and the relation to the space the piece lives in. She strives to create installations that bring a culture into the space, as she draws motivation from things such as street art and architectural design. Through these motivations and desires, she creates unique pieces that are curated solely for that one location and the space it exists in. This is  done with the viewer in mind so they can interact with the exact way she intended, making the experience unique to each one of her installations.

Platacis received her B.F.A. from New Mexico State University and her M.F.A. from The School of Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and Tufts University. She has shown the world her work through a variety of solo and group exhibitions, in galleries in such places as Boston, Cambridge, Los Angeles, Miami, New Mexico and France. Her most recent solo exhibition, Taking Place, 2019 in the Peabody Essex Museum, Salem Massachusetts.
